Home and Community Treatment
Home and Community Treatment (HCT) provides intensive, team-based support for children and youth with significant behavioral health needs. Services are delivered directly in the home and community to help stabilize situations, improve daily functioning, and support families in managing ongoing challenges.
Who is this service for?
HCT may be appropriate if your child:
- Is experiencing significant behavioral or emotional challenges Is struggling to function at home, in school, or in the community
- Is at risk of hospitalization or out-of-home placement
- Needs more support than outpatient therapy alone

What we provide
- Individual and family therapy
- Crisis support and stabilization
- Skill-building for emotional regulation and behavior
- Parent support and coaching
- Ongoing assessment and treatment planning
- Coordination with schools, providers, and other supports
- Team-based care, including a clinician and Behavioral Health Professional (BHP)
Services are provided where they are most needed: in the home, community, or in coordination with your child’s school or other supports.
How to Get Started
Allied Community Services works directly with families, schools, providers, and case managers to make the process as clear and straightforward as possible. If you think HCT may be appropriate:
1. Submit a request through our contact form or reach out to the office that serves your area by visiting the Contact Us page. If you’re ready to begin, you can also submit a referral.
2. Once our team receives the information, we will follow up to gather information and coordinate the next steps.
3. An intake and clinical assessment will be scheduled.
4. Our team will coordinate authorization and start the service
Who is eligible?
HCT requires prior authorization through MaineCare’s review vendor, Acentra Health. Our team handles this process as part of intake, so you do not need to coordinate it on your own.
Children and youth (ages 0-20)
Services are available to individuals from birth through age 21 who meet clinical criteria for HCT.
MaineCare eligible
HCT is a MaineCare-funded service. Active MaineCare coverage is required at the time of referral and throughout service delivery.
Meets criteria for intensive behavioral health services
Individuals must demonstrate a level of need that requires more intensive support than outpatient therapy, including significant functional impairment or risk of higher-level care.
